KENAS Provides Strategic Support to UGANAS in Uganda

The Uganda National Accreditation Service (UGANAS) recently hosted a delegation from the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) at their offices in Uganda. This visit marks a significant milestone in the development of accreditation services in East Africa, with UGANAS now established as the second Accreditation Body (AB) in the region, following in the footsteps of KENAS.

The visit aimed to foster collaboration and capacity-building efforts, crucial for the operationalization of UGANAS. This partnership represents a promising step towards strengthening quality standards and practices within Uganda, setting the stage for a more robust accreditation landscape.

During the visit, KENAS introduced UGANAS to its accredited clients operating in Uganda, including Keane Engineering Technologies Limited, National Health Laboratories and Diagnostics Services, and Teclab Limited. These engagements provided UGANAS with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by organizations in Uganda, helping to shape their approach to accreditation services.

The knowledge exchange with KENAS proved to be an invaluable experience. The firsthand experiences shared by KENAS-accredited clients provided a clear picture of the accreditation landscape in Uganda, highlighting the areas where UGANAS can make the most impact. KENAS also offered strategic assistance by developing a comprehensive work plan for UGANAS, outlining key strategies to build capacity among their staff and assessors. The plan focuses on critical sectors where UGANAS intends to offer accreditation services, including Medical Laboratories, Testing Laboratories, Proficiency Testing, and Inspection.

As UGANAS embarks on this journey towards unlocking excellence in Uganda’s accreditation framework, this collaboration with KENAS is expected to lay a strong foundation for future developments. The shared vision of enhancing quality standards and fostering a culture of excellence is poised to drive significant improvements in various sectors across Uganda.
